Bistro Cafe Trois

I just realized as I sat down to type out my post that I didn't take a picture of the outside of the restaurant. What in the world? All I can say in my defense is that the food was so good that it was all I could think about as I was walking out. I know. Lame. It's all I got though. Note to self: From now on, take pictures of the outside before you go in. And that is what I usually do, but I was so excited about the place I went to for lunch today that I just couldn't wait to get in and look over the menu. Boy, what a distracting place. In a good way, of course.

I did get pictures of the inside...

It's not a very big place, but I love the way it looks. I'm not sure if it would work well for a large group, but it is certainly perfect for a date night.

Bistro Cafe Trois was the spot for my monthly lunch date with Danielle and Courtney today. Unfortunately, Danielle couldn't make it so it was just me and Courtney. Courtney is the reason why Trois was chosen for this month. She told me about this wonderful Lotus Root Creme Brulee that they make for dessert. Did she say, LOTUS ROOT? As you know from my previous post, I am madly in love with lotus root. Lotus Root Creme Brulee??? I was in! Oh. And she said the food was good too. Whatever. I wasn't even paying attention at that point. All I could think about was the lotus root creme brulee.

I called ahead to make reservations and requested the lotus root creme brulee as our dessert (I didn't want to take any chances). We arrived and they had our table ready for us. I looked over the menu and everything looked so good. Unfortunately, the menu is not in English at all. Don't let that keep you from going though. There are some pictures on the back of the menu.
The lunch set menu. You get a course meal and the price is based on what you choose for your main dish.

You don't have to get the set though. You can also order just pasta or pizza.

I definitely wanted to try the set so I ordered the Seafood Genova Pizza. Courtney ordered the Monterosso Pizza. It's a tomato sauce pizza with what Japanese call "raw ham" (which I think is like prosciutto), arugula, and parmesan cheese. Mine had seafood with red onions, yellow bell peppers, and a basil sauce. It was hard to decide because they also had Margherita Pizza which is one of my favorites! There was also a very interesting pizza. Quatro Fromage Pizza. I know. Four Cheese Pizza is not a big deal. But this one comes with maple syrup. Uhh huh. Yep. I said, maple syrup. What for, you ask? You're supposed to pour it over your pizza and eat it. I don't know about you, but I'm intrigued. I think I will have to try that one the next time I go. They also have a selection of pastas and a curry jambalaya which also sounds interesting.

Since we ordered the lunch set we got an appetizer.
They're usually good about asking whether raw fish is okay or not, but you can also mention it to them and they'll make sure they don't include raw fish in your appetizer.

You also get garlic bread and you can order more bread at no extra charge.

Then the pizza came...
The seafood pizza. It was really good. I especially liked the basil sauce.

The nama hamu (literally means...raw ham) pizza. I tasted a slice of this and it was YUMMY!

Then came the moment I had been waiting for. Dessert!

As much as I wanted to just dive right in and devour the creme brulee, I started from the cake and the ice cream. I wanted to save the best for last. I wasn't disappointed at all either. It was even better than I imagined it to be. Wow. This is now my favorite creme brulee ever!!

The lunch set also includes one drink. We got hot coffee and asked to have it served with dessert. You can also get iced coffee, hot tea, iced tea, ginger ale, or one of the other choices (I can't remember, but I know they had a few more on the menu).

The lunch set is kind of pricey. Mine was 1700yen and I think Courtney's was just a tiny bit (like 20yen) cheaper than that. You don't have to order the set though. You can just order a pizza, or a pasta. Or you can always go there for dinner. Just make sure you GO! The food is good, the atmosphere is wonderful, and the service is great. But the best part is that they serve LOTUS ROOT CREME BRULEE!

To get to this wonderful little restaurant -

Go out Monzen Gate and turn left onto the main road. Follow that road for not even a minute and make the first right. Go over some railroad tracks and Yellow Hat should be on your left. Turn left at the light and follow this road for a few minutes. You'll pass Akiyama on your right. Keep going. You'll come to a small intersection where you can either turn right or keep going straight. I believe there is an AU office on the right corner. Turn right and follow this road. You'll pass a 7-Eleven on your left and YouMe Town will be on your left (I think you can see it from the road). Keep going straight though. You're going to follow this road until you are almost at the light. Well, you actually kind of are at the light. Trois is on your right and it is right before the light. It's really cute from the outside and they do have a small parking lot. Sorry. If this foodie had been thinking about something other than food, there would be a picture right here of the cute little Trois from the outside. Next time...

Tomorrow, I am leaving for Osaka. Yes! Next week I will blog about the yummy food places I encounter while I am in Kyoto and Osaka. I'll also be checking out Zen Zen for lunch next week. I have been there for dinner, but never for lunch. So look for some posts from me next week. Have a wonderful weekend!

Oops! I forgot to add the phone number for Trois. It's (0827) 32-9500. They don't speak or understand English very much though so you might want to ask ITT or a Japanese speaking friend to make reservations for you. Be sure to request the Renkon Creme Brulee!!
